My Approach to Therapy and Counseling

I work from a systems-oriented, collaborative perspective with clients. I believe that problems do not reside within the person, but instead arise from a complex set of interactions with different systems (family, friends, school, work). My goal is to provide space for clients to see "blind spots" and find new solutions. Clients may choose to work on short-term, solution-oriented goals or longer-term goals to create changes in their lives.

I also incorporate empirically guided practices such as mindfulness-based cognitive therapy and interpersonal therapy for depression and anxiety.

My Interests

I especially enjoy nurturing creativity, story-telling, and meaning-making in clients. My research in creativity has guided my practice, especially in helping creative individuals who experience mood and anxiety difficulties. My interests in working from a mind-body integrative perspective also guide my practice. See my links page for research into the effectiveness of exercise on depression and anxiety.
